NaBloPoMo Day 10: This is Your Song

Take a line from a song that you love or connect with. Turn that line into the title of your post.

In the middle of the night, I go walking in my sleep…
“River of Dreams” – Billy Joel

If night gets redefined as the time between sunrise and sunset, call me a sleepwalker. If not, then I’m dying ’cause I’m lying.

And as I lay lying, I won’t be the first to wonder whether this life isn’t the dream and dreams the real life, to remember that song I once heard, telling me to row row row your boat

Except, unlike in that tune, it wasn’t streams that returned in my dreams but cityscapes, ones so vividly familiar it’s as if I’ve been in them before – I just don’t know if it was in life, in a dream, both?

And if it was in a dream, was that because of an even earlier dream or because I was actually there in the waking life a long, very long, time ago?

In the waking life, when all I had to do was walk the empty city in the still of night with nothing but the chill air for company and I felt good.

When the city was like someplace I once knew – a dream.

Then, I would go home and wake up.
